Chaplain Craig Hungler

Chaplain and funeral director

Craig Hungler brings a rare dual perspective to ChaplainUSA — as both a chaplain and a longtime funeral director with Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service, the family-rooted Central Ohio firm that has served Columbus families since 1855. His insights on grief, ritual, and the pastoral care of families bridge two callings most chaplains only encounter from one side: he is present for the family the night their world breaks, and he is present again when it is time to lay their loved one to rest.

A longtime presenter and contributor with the International Conference of Police Chaplains, Craig and his wife Kathy together delivered the keynote on the emotional and spiritual support officers need and want at the ICPC's International Training Seminar — a session still referenced years later in the chaplaincy community. His combination of professional credentials — a certified funeral director and a commissioned police chaplain — gives him a vantage point that very few people in either field share.

He and Kathy live in the Columbus area, and his quiet, steady wisdom continues to bridge the work of officer care and family care in ways that have shaped the Police Chaplain Project archive.
